Literature Text
From a burning cigarette
In the hand of a liar.
Choking me as it builds,
Then disappearing in the arms of a gentle breeze.
From a burning picture
Of a love I'll never forget.
Stinging my eyes
As your twisted smile warps and melts away.
From a burning home
That we never really had.
Replacing my oxygen
As it infiltrates our nonexistent children's rooms.
From my burning flesh
That knows I deserve this.
Screaming at me not to stop
Until I can no longer feel the fire of love.
My hope is smoke.
Pretty to look at,
Yet, there's nothing to hold onto.
I'll set fire to the world,
I'll burn everything I've ever loved,
But no amount of hope can change the facts;
We are destined to fail.
In the hand of a liar.
Choking me as it builds,
Then disappearing in the arms of a gentle breeze.
From a burning picture

Death?
In the end I will not run
I will embrace it with open arms
For that is all you can do
Sure some may be sad
But you must always think about yourself first
Otherwise you will become corrupted
Lost
Your end will come quicker and no one would notice
So In the end I will not run
I will embrace it for that is all I can do
Literature
Watching Innocence Die
I sit alone watching intently
I watch the young spirit
She smiles wide
It brings warmth to my heart
To see such a sunny smile again
The smile that has been ripped off of me
I miss that smile
That girl sits in her classroom drawing
She draws what she wants to be
She wants to be a princess, a fairy, a hero, everything.
I sit and stare at the imagination
Her innocence and beauty shines like sparkling diamonds
She believes, she smiles, she lives.
She is life.
I was life.
I was her once.
I had innocence, I had her beauty, I had the light in my heart.
But it was put out like a candle.
The spirit inside me broke
It's dead
It lef

Letting the Past Die
Letting the Past Die
11/4/18
The past—everyone says to let it go
Despite being its present descendants
And resulting culminations—echoes
Pictures paused, prompting pensive reminiscence
And subsequent self-reflection. It stores
Memories fleeting adrift in oceans
Flooded from the stress of living life coursed
In cutthroat waters, chasing promotions
Or raises—hooked as soon as we taste it
Just once. While revisiting my past, I
Recovered fragments, memories lost in
The growing countless chapters cast aside
Ignored: old friends, faces I'd forgotten
Unclaimed treasures of moments I’d have cherished
Forever had I known what

Critique: For free verse, it is profound. The use of imagery and metaphor shows good awareness of techniques. Like me,You must have been writing for many years. Good conclusion too. We all fail eventually. That may be a modernist attitude. Solitude and failure of the individual. Good show!
